Artist Studios + Collectives + Residencies:
an artist's experiences of finding a new studio, joining an artist collective and taking part in a residency in Canada.

by Julie Derbyshire

As an artist, setting a goal is important. But how does the artist get from 'where they are' to 'where they want to be'?

About the talk

Set adrift after finishing your studies with little knowledge and no experience of how to go about developing an art practice? That’s how Julie felt after completing her Photography Masters a few years ago: ambitious to establish herself as a photographic artist but with no real idea of how to achieve it. In this talk Julie shares her insights on her route into a supportive artistic community and the benefits she continues to gain from it including studio space, an international residency and rewarding new friendships and connections.
